On October 22, 2003, the 8th annual national day of protest to stop police brutality, repression, and the criminalization of a generation was held in San Francisco, CA. Organized by the October 22nd Coalition, this well orchestrated action was, ironically enough, protected by plenty of cops. Protesters assembled at the 16th St/Mission BART and took to the streets to get the message clear, that police brutality will not be tolerated. The final destination was Civic Center, but made a brief stop at the SFPD department in the Mission to tell the cops exactly what was on their minds. The crowd was a mix of folks and included local activists and organizers, Loco Bloco bustin’ out dope drum beats, a few emcees bustin’ out flows and leading chants keeping the crowd going, and family members of victims of police brutality and murders. Here are some pics that I took from the action, focusing on those families who have had lives stolen from them and are now fighting back against this repressive police state.
