Hirohide Sakuma and Kyoko Sugasawa from the Fukushima region of Japan speak to two hundred protesters in Southern California at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. The March 11, 2011 event was both a commemoration on the one year anniversary of the Fukushima earthquake, tsunami and nuclear power plant disaster which killed close to 16,000 people (with more than 3,000 still missing) and also a call for the decommissioning of the San Onofre plant. Speakers told the protestors that San Onofre, which was currently shut down for repairs, has the worst safety record among U.S. nuclear plants. Photo by Nic Paget-Clarke.
